A storm nearby is not proof of damage
Weather records can show that hail or wind was reported in an area. They cannot tell you whether your roof was damaged. Only an inspection of the roof itself can.
If you think there is damage, take dated photos from the ground, note any leaks inside, and contact your insurance company or agent about how to report it.
Checking a contractor
- Texas Department of Insurance tips suggest confirming that a contractor carries insurance.
- Ask for references you can call.
- Get written bids, and read them before you sign.
- Be cautious with pressure to sign the same day, and never sign a blank or incomplete document.
Permits and local rules
Ask your city or county building official whether the repair needs a permit or inspection.
In parts of the Texas coast, windstorm building requirements can apply to repairs. Whether they apply depends on where the home is, so ask your local building official or your insurer.
