Texas average home electricity price, July 2026
EIA reported an average Texas residential price of 15.88 cents per kWh for July 2026, up from 15.36 cents for July 2025: 0.52 cents, or about 3.4%. It is a statewide average across residential customers, not your plan's rate, your delivery charges or a solar buyback, and not a forecast.
What this means for your home
Compare it with your own bill: divide your total by the kWh you used. Your plan, usage and delivery charges decide what you pay.

Xcel adds grid-scale solar at a Texas plant site
Xcel Energy described Plant X in Lamb County, Texas, a former gas plant site that now includes 150 MW of solar serving its Texas and New Mexico grid. A grid-scale announcement does not by itself establish any change to home buyback or assure home backup.

Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation · Effective September 1, 2026
Texas solar retailer registration starts
Registration of solar retailers and salespeople is required for residential solar sales and leases from September 1, 2026. Enforcement of two administrative rules, on disclosures (71.41) and educational materials (71.43), is temporarily suspended until November 1, 2026; registration itself is not suspended.

Before signing, check that the company and the salesperson are registered and who the licensed electrical contractor is.

Austin Energy raises its home solar rebate
Austin Energy announced that its home solar rebate increased to $4,000 for eligible Austin Energy projects installed by a participating contractor. Eligibility and available funds are set by Austin Energy.

Only Austin Energy customers can use it. Confirm eligibility and funds with Austin Energy, and ask where any rebate shows in the written price.

Oncor temporary surcharge from August 1
In its second-quarter 2026 results, Oncor said a temporary surcharge began August 1, 2026, recovering the difference between old and new rates for January 1 to June 1, through the end of 2026. Oncor estimated about $3.63 a month at 1,000 kWh; that is its illustration at one usage level, not a whole bill.

If Oncor delivers your power, look for delivery charges on your bill. The amount depends on your usage.

Oncor's 2026 residential solar program options
Oncor's 2026 manual lists residential solar options with and without battery storage. Eligibility includes an Oncor residential account and a new qualifying system; additions to existing solar or storage do not qualify. A participating provider must secure project approval and reserved funds before construction. Ask for written eligibility and funding confirmation. Program participation is not an Oncor endorsement.

The homeowner clean energy credit ended for new systems
The IRS says the Residential Clean Energy Credit is not available for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. For a 2026 home solar proposal, do not assume the former homeowner credit applies.
