Usage and price are different

Kilowatt-hours measure the electricity your home used. Your plan's terms, when you used it and other charges on the bill decide what you paid. A bigger bill does not automatically mean more use.

Start with your own documents

• A year of bills, so you can see seasonal patterns.
• Your current plan documents from your retail electric provider, if you choose one.
• The delivery charges on your bill, which come from your delivery utility.

Then look at the home

Comfort problems, duct leaks, insulation, windows and older equipment can all raise demand. Understanding them comes before sizing solar or a battery.
